Social media is my official way stay in touch, stay informed, and stay educated. Social media is the newest way to keep up with what is going on in the world and what your friends and family members are up to. It is a way to meet new people with whom you can network, and form relationships. It is a way to get information on prospective job opportunities. In our fast pace world, social media has become a very useful tool for companies to use and benefit from.
I personally use Facebook and Twitter. I use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family members, and to see what is going on with certain organizations and companies that I am interested in. I use Twitter to get up-to-the-minute information on news, job opportunities, and, of course, celebrities.
These are just two forms of social media that I use daily. With so much going on in my life, I use both cites frequently. Both forms of social media are available to anyone, and are free— why wouldn’t someone want to utilize these tools? They are easy, and have so much to offer. My advice: if you aren’t using them, it’s time to start!

Like you, I use Twitter and Facebook for two different purposes. Facebook is the way I stay in touch with my friends who go to different schools, and I suppose also those who go to Marquette as well. Twitter on the other hand I use as a place for news and information, whether important, or totally irrelevant. The Twittersphere is a great place to check out intersting links to blogs, websites, and other interactive online things.
There is one thing that I use both Facebook and Twitter for however, and that is procrastination. These 2 sites are the first places I visit before actually getting productive with my homework.
There is a really intersting post on a blog by a psychologist who specializes in the study of procrastination. He started research on facebook and prorastination. Some of the quotes he shares from his participants are hysterical.

And although I always get my homework done, I can only imagine how much faster this would be accomplished without my usual social media distractions.
I also am a social media-aholic. I am on facebook way too many hours out of the day. However, I question whether it is just a college student thing or should business professionals also be on Facebook as much? I understand that anyone can go on Facebook now and that it is very popular for people of all ages. I just wonder if we are spending way too much time concerned with what others are doing or procrastinating on work that should be done. After college, I definitely don't think I will be on Facebook as much as I currently am. Hopefully, I will only use it to catch up with friends.
