Writing to me is a creative means to communicate to others your feelings, thoughts and points of view without being interupted. I like writing because I am able to take my time to express whatever it is I am trying to express. I can read and reread my ramblings and decide if it will make any sense to anyone else or if it only makes sense to me. I can change words, take out sentences, add sentences or delete the entire thing and start all over. Then if it seems important enough, I can have a friend or family member read it over and edit it all again. When speaking, compared to writing, you lose these luxuries and may say something that you regret and spend the rest of that day going over all of your mistakes and thinking of things that would have been better in that situation. When you write, you can prepare for a speech, express your feelings to a friend or someone close to you, or express your feelings to yourself in a private setting. In a sence, you can sensor yourself and make sure that what you are saying other people will take the same way you meant it.
Not only is writing important to me to sensor myself, it is something that I have grown up with. I am used to giving and receiving special letters from family members and friends. It is our way of letting people know that we care about them and are thinking of them even during those times when it doesn't seem like it.
