What Writing Means to Me

I have always loved writing. To me, writing is a way to express yourself and be creative. Although it has always been hard for me to keep a journal, as I become lazy with updating it, I like to look back at the entries I've written in the past. It's very interesting to see how much I've changed, and how I'm still the same.

Although it's never fun to write 10 page essays, it does give me the chance to improve my skill at writing. It's always a challenge writing not just my own thoughts and ideas, but incorporating other sources. A lot of times writing essays for non-communications classes is more difficult, because I've become used to writing only the necessary, pertinent, information and not trailing on. I try to get to the point when writing history essays, whereas my classmates say essentially say the same thing but write 17 pages instead of 10. For me, writing is quality, and not quantity.

I found an old journal when I was packing this summer... and I agree with your statement about how you are so different yet the same. I could tell immediately when the journal was from & what it was about from the tone of the journal entry & my writing style.

I completely agree that writing is more about quality than quantity. No one likes to read the same thing over and over which is why I often find it more difficult to write a paper for a class such as history.

I agree as well! I always find it hard to drag something on when I have already made my point. I would much rather have something shorter that is a good, quality piece of writing as opposed to dragging something on just for length!

I never really thought about writing as a time capsule of sorts, but that is such an interesting thought!!

It is completely interesting to see how values and beliefs have changed by reading through thoughts of the past.
